The most inspirational challenge yet…
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
It is this desire to live life to the max and inspire others which motivates our member Colin Blears to take on the most extreme challenges.
Last month we shared Colin’s fitness journey from IT businessman and entrepreneur to adventurer. Now we bring you news of his latest and most inspirational challenge yet!
In January this year, Colin was unexpectedly offered the opportunity to join a team who are attempting to break the World Record for the fastest transatlantic row. The multinational team of four set off from Portimao in Portugal on 6thMarch and aim to reach Cayenne in French Guiana (South America), over 6000 km away, in under 50 days. This is a monumental experience and both a physical and mental challenge especially because Colin has never rowed before.
The conditions on board are harsh and the team are being put to the ultimate test. They are facing extreme weather, painful saltwater sores, blisters on their hands, strong winds, storms and waves of ten meters high.
On board, there is no room for comfort, the team survive on a diet of high-calorie freeze-dried food packages. Drinking water is generated by the water maker on board. Keeping up the momentum for a gruelling 2 month challenge of this magnitude requires another level of motivation altogether.
“Whilst embarking on these personal goals I would not have been able to complete them without the support from the instructors at Pulse 8 Gym.”
